Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cupboard approves proposal to sanction the nation’s oldest newspaper.
Israel’s cupboard has accredited a proposal to chop all authorities hyperlinks with Haaretz – a transfer that might cripple the 105-year-old newspaper financially and drive it to close down.
Haaretz has condemned the motion, describing it as “one other step in [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s journey to dismantle Israeli democracy”.
Can a free information media survive in Israel?
And might Israel’s Western allies stress it to respect the democratic values they are saying they stand for?
