At present, the U.S. Peace Corps hosted an official swearing-in and commissioning ceremony for six new volunteers on the Peace Corps Coaching Middle in Kambia. U.S. Ambassador Bryan Hunt welcomed representatives from the Ministry of Well being, Ministry of Primary, Senior&Secondary Training, and Ministry of International Affairs along with native dignitaries as he administered the oath of service for the volunteers.
These new volunteers accomplished ten weeks of Krio language, technical, and cultural coaching to arrange for 2 years of service in well being and training throughout three districts. The volunteers will dwell alongside communities, typically in rural areas, as they work with native counterparts in main and secondary colleges and native well being applications. The Peace Corps program works in collaboration with the Authorities of Sierra Leone and native communities when deciding on work places and program focuses for volunteers.
Ambassador Hunt stated, “The U.S. Authorities is honored to have a Peace Corps program right here. These volunteers are becoming a member of the ranks of over 3,000 Peace Corps volunteers who’ve served in Sierra Leone and have gotten a part of a legacy of dedication and repair.”
The Sierra Leonean and U.S. Governments signed a memorandum of understanding in 1962, authorizing the U.S. Peace Corps to serve in Sierra Leone. Since then, yearly for 62 years, Sierra Leone has welcomed volunteers who come to contribute to the event of the nation and foster mutual understanding between the Individuals and Sierra Leoneans.
