The UN Safety Council has unanimously adopted a decision to strengthen MONUSCO’s assist for the Southern African Improvement Neighborhood Mission within the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC). The decision, proposed by Sierra Leone and France, will enhance coordination, info sharing, and technical help between each missions. In line with Michael Imran Kanu, Sierra Leone’s Everlasting Consultant to the UN, the decision can be focused at fostering a conducive atmosphere for ongoing regional peace efforts, together with the latest ceasefire settlement between the DRC and Rwanda brokered by Angola. Nathalie Estival-Broadhurst, France’s Deputy Everlasting Consultant to the UN, emphasised the mission’s readiness to offer technical assist for civilian safety, logistical help for medical evacuations, and data sharing. The “A3 plus one” coalition, comprising Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Guyana, additionally helps this initiative.
