A whole bunch of protesters from the Kapam group in Chikun Native Authorities Space of Kaduna State blocked the doorway to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Firm on Friday, demanding compensation for damages attributable to a poisonous chemical discharge from the refinery.
The protesters, largely girls, who started their demonstration at daybreak, carried placards and displayed lifeless crop leaves, alleging that the chemical discharge had destroyed their farms, killed their animals, and posed a big risk to their well being.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions reminiscent of: “KRPC has utterly destroyed our crops”, “KRPC has poisoned us with poisonous chemical compounds”, “Kapam Neighborhood in peril: KRPC’s actions are devastating us,” “KRPC has ruined our lives. We is not going to tolerate this!” amongst others.
Rose, a mom and protester, fought again tears as she described the devastating affect of the chemical discharge on her group.
“Our kids are struggling due to the negligence of KRPC. They inhaled the poisonous chemical and now they’re mendacity within the hospital, preventing for his or her lives. We are able to’t afford to lose them.
