A 59-year-old man recognized as Yemi has disclosed that he tried suicide as a result of he was overwhelmed by challenges.
Yemi, a resident of Ilasa in Lagos State, was rescued by the Fast Response Squad operatives whereas making an attempt to leap into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Friday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a publish on X (previously Twitter) on Friday.
Hundeyin tweeted, “At about 1200hrs immediately (Friday), Fast Response Squad (RRS) bike riders on routine patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge prevented a person from leaping into the lagoon.
“The person, one Yemi, aged 59 of Ilasa, Lagos said that he was overwhelmed by challenges.”
He added that Yemi has been taken into protecting custody pending the arrival of his household.
“Commander RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye has counselled the suspect and has directed he be stored in protecting custody pending the arrival of his members of the family,” the PPRO stated.
PUNCH On-line reported on July 10 that Lagos State Police Officers rescued an American citizen from making an attempt suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge.
In accordance with Hundeyin, the American, whose title was not disclosed, was pushed to the bridge by his child mama at roughly 1:23 p.m.
Hundeyin had revealed that the American, who’s in his early 30s, directed his child mama to park her car whereas he walked to a spot on the bridge, intending to leap into the Lagoon.
A passerby who observed his suspicious behaviour had alerted patrolling Fast Response Squad operatives, who persuaded him to not leap.
