After a bush breakfast, friends head again to the luxe Mara Nyika Camp – a streak of 5 elevated canvas tents below umbrellas of flat-topped acacia kirkii bushes – and may do a deep dive into the camp’s wine checklist, offered by way of the brand new app loaded onto a pill. This checklist goes far past simply pink and white with near 50 bottles, and the app lets you filter by issues like nation, varietal, and knowledgeable score. The wines are largely South African (about 65 per cent), although there are loads bottles from afar too, together with kosher picks from Isreal. All of the wine is hand-selected, and there’s a concentrate on highlighting different conservation-focused manufacturers (like Painted Wolf, Paul Cluver, and Cederberg Wines) and championing African success tales like Mosi Wines made by Zimbabwean refugee turned winemaker Joseph Dhafana. About 15 per cent of the checklist modifications annually, so as to add in new discoveries and adapt to new tendencies.
