The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure extends heartfelt congratulations to all of the winners of the 2024 Empowerment and Recognition of Girls in Development (ERWIC) Awards. The Chairperson is inspired by the evolution of this initiative, which started as a celebration of ladies thriving in a male-dominated building sector. Through the years, it has grown into a significant platform for data change, empowerment, and advocacy for a girls’s voices within the building trade.
Since their inception in 2020, ERWIC awards have been hosted by the Development Business Growth Board and over time the awards have gained momentum and vital progress. The awards embody varied classes recognising girls mentors, women-led initiatives, and youth ownerships amongst girls with the purpose of supporting and uplifting extraordinary girls devoted to constructing the nation.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms Carol Phiri, stated, “We salute the ladies who’re on the forefront of driving excellence and transformation within the broader public works and infrastructure sector and enjoying their half in job creation and nation constructing.”
Ms Phiri added that the committee expects to obtain an in depth report from the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure on the implementation of transformational plans throughout the building sector earlier than the tip of the 2024/25 monetary yr.
