A coalition of Guinea’s opposition teams and civil society organizations, Forces Vives, has referred to as for the navy junta to cede energy and set up civilian rule by January 1. The junta, led by Mamady Doumbouya, seized management in a 2021 coup and initially agreed to a two-year transition to elections beginning in 2022. Nonetheless, progress towards organizing elections has been sluggish, resulting in rising public discontent. Consequently, there have been sporadic protests in opposition to the federal government, a few of which turned violent. In July, transitional authorities unveiled a draft structure that would enable Doumbouya to run in future elections, signifying some progress. Nonetheless, no date has been set for a promised referendum on the structure. Consequently, Forces Vives is urging a unified effort from each civilians and navy personnel to push for a civilian-led transition and the departure of the junta.
