The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Memounatou Ibrahima, on Tuesday, referred to as for swift reforms throughout the Financial Group of West African States to sort out the mounting crises dealing with the area.
Talking on the opening ceremony of the 2024 Third Additional-Odd Session and Second Parliamentary Seminar in Lome, Togo, Ibrahima confused the necessity for rapid motion to deal with points reminiscent of floods, terrorism, violent extremism, and irregular migration.
“Our area is ravaged by floods, terrorism, violent extremism and irregular migration which have affected hundreds of our residents.
“ECOWAS of fifty years should pace up reforms to consolidate the rules of democracy and good governance to drive the imaginative and prescient of the founding fathers,” the speaker said.
The session will deal with budgetary provisions for the 2025-2027 fiscal years, geared toward making a monetary roadmap to deal with the area’s rising challenges.
The Parliament may also evaluate the implementation of the 2023 funds and assess the mid-term funds for 2024 to make sure alignment with the area’s improvement targets.
Ibrahima praised Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe, for his unwavering assist of regional integration and girls’s empowerment, noting that her historic appointment as the primary feminine Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament was a testomony to his promotion of girls in management.
As a part of the session, the ECOWAS Feminine Parliamentarians Affiliation will host a symposium on “Empowering Girls via Monetary Inclusion” to reinforce financial alternatives for girls throughout the area.
The President of the ECOWAS Financial institution for Funding and Improvement, Dr. George Donkor, additionally addressed the session, calling for stronger infrastructure funding and regional cooperation to spice up the competitiveness of West African economies.

Togo’s Minister of Human Rights, Barrister Pacome Yawovi Missiame Amenyo Adjourouvi, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the erosion of human rights within the area because of repressive governance.
