The Registrar of Joint Admission Matriculation Board, Prof. Isiaq Oloyede, on Monday, described some establishments working each day part-time programmes in Nigeria as unlawful.
Oloyode, who was on a fact-finding mission to the Ibadan Zonal Workplace of JAMB in Oyo State, mentioned a lot of the allegations levelled towards his officers are unfounded.
He mentioned a lot of the affected college students have themselves in charge for no matter they’re experiencing now, not JAMB.
The registrar mentioned a lot of the college students, in a desperation to safe admission to larger establishments of studying, have minimize corners which have now backfired.
Oloyode mentioned, “The criticism was that on the Ibadan Zonal Workplace, the officers will not be appearing effectively and that there was no programme dedicated to the Ibadan workplace. So, I’ve to come back right here to see what’s going on as a result of the impression is that individuals right here will not be accountable.
“Nonetheless, from what we’ve seen, it’s now clear that they’re grappling with issues that even the system wouldn’t have envisaged.
“How do you clarify a case of any individual who was given what might aptly be described as an under-tabled admission seven years in the past and didn’t seem till now?
“One other case is that of any individual who had modified his identify greater than seven years in the past and he/she is now coming again to us to impact a change. It is rather like going again to main college that I’ve since modified my identify and I want one other certificates.”
On the admission for Increased Nationwide Diploma programmes, Oloyede disclosed that the board has nothing to do with the method.
He mentioned the legislation doesn’t permit JAMB to register candidates for any of the HND programmes.
“You might be supplied admission to run the OND programme on a part-time foundation now that you simply wish to apply for the HND programmes, you need the board to alter your OND from part-time to full-time. How will we try this?
“Now you can see the opposite dimension of what they referred to as a each day part-time programme which is one other illegality. A scenario the place the establishment is allowed to confess solely 200 candidates however goes forward to confess a further 400 candidates on a part-time foundation.
“At the moment, the board was not reckoning with them and the establishment went forward to register them as full-time college students, graduating with full-time college students, forgetting that they’re registered on a part-time foundation.
“The board has made returns to the NYSC concerning the college students which can be graduating that 12 months. The purpose is that you simply don’t count on JAMB to alter the each day part-time college students to full-time,” he mentioned.
