BEIJING: China helps Iran in defending its “sovereignty, safety and nationwide dignity”, Chinese language overseas minister Wang Yi informed Iran’s performing overseas minister in a cellphone name on Sunday (Aug 11), in keeping with an announcement by China’s overseas ministry.
Within the cellphone name, Wang repeated Beijing’s denunciation of the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Jul 31, saying the strike had violated Iran’s sovereignty and threatened regional stability.
Iran and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have accused Israel of finishing up the strike that killed Haniyeh.
Israel has not claimed or denied accountability for the killing, which has fueled concern that the warfare between Israel and Hamas within the Gaza Strip was turning into a wider Middle East war.
Iran has vowed to “harshly punish” Israel over the assassination.
Wang informed Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s Appearing Overseas Minister, that the killing of Haniyeh had “straight undermined the Gaza ceasefire negotiation course of and undermined regional peace and stability”, China’s overseas ministry mentioned.
“China helps Iran in defending its sovereignty, safety and nationwide dignity in accordance with the regulation, and in its efforts to keep up regional peace and stability, and stands prepared to keep up shut communication with Iran,” Wang was quoted as saying.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday nominated Abbas Araqchi because the nation’s overseas minister. Araqchi had been Iran’s chief negotiator in nuclear talks from 2013 to 2021.
