Canada’s finance minister has resigned, citing variations with chief Justin Trudeau about how the nation ought to reply to the “grave problem” posed by the incoming Trump administration’s financial insurance policies.
Chrystia Freeland, who can be Canada’s deputy prime minister, mentioned the PM had on Friday advised her he not wished her to function finance minister and had provided her a unique cupboard place. In a letter to Trudeau posted on X, Freeland known as US president-elect Donald Trump’s menace to impose 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports “a grave problem”.
She added that to “take that menace extraordinarily critically” meant “holding our fiscal powder dry at this time, so we now have the reserves we may have for a coming tariff battle” in addition to “eschewing pricey political gimmicks”.
