The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has discovered with deep concern of a tragic incident in Buulo Mareer on 17 July 2024, involving the lack of two civilian lives and damage to a different.
ATMIS is conscious of media allegations linking the Mission to those unlucky occasions.
The Mission has initiated an intensive investigation into these allegations and hereby assures all stakeholders that the findings will likely be made public on conclusion.
ATMIS extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved households and desires them energy throughout this tough time.
The Mission hereby reiterate that its Peace Assist Operations in Somalia are guided by ATMIS core mandate to guard civilian lives. ATMIS forces are educated and mentored to strictly adjust to Worldwide Humanitarian Legislation, Human Rights requirements, and the Guidelines of Engagement governing army operations, with explicit emphasis on defending civilians and kids.
