The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 5 suspects in reference to the homicide of a 46-year-old graduate of the College of Ilorin, Lanre Adebayo.
Adebayo, a Political Science graduate, was reportedly tortured to loss of life on Monday, October 21, 2024, within the Ita-Elepa space of Ilorin West Native Authorities Space, following an altercation with native vigilante safety guards.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects included a group chief, two native vigilante guards, and two different people who allegedly participated within the assault that led to Adebayo’s loss of life.
Sources revealed that the incident started as a heated argument between Adebayo and the vigilante guards whereas he was on his means dwelling. The disagreement shortly escalated, leading to a brutal assault.
Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the suspects have been apprehended after the case was reported to the command headquarters on Wednesday night.
“The case was reported to us, and 5 male suspects have been arrested for additional questioning. An investigation is ongoing, and we’ll present extra particulars as soon as it’s concluded,” Ejire-Adeyemi mentioned.
The arrest of the suspects has sparked outrage in the neighborhood, with residents calling for justice over the mindless killing of the college graduate.
