BEIRUT: Lebanese Hezbollah’s head Hassan Nasrallah vowed on Thursday (Aug 1) to reply to Israel’s killing of the group’s prime navy commander, saying its decades-old foe had “crossed crimson traces”.
An Israeli strike on Hezbollah’s stronghold within the southern suburb of Beirut on Tuesday killed top commander Fuad Shukr, together with an Iranian navy advisor and 5 civilians.
It was probably the most critical blow to the Iran-backed group in practically twenty years and threatened to push the tit-for-tat exchanges throughout Lebanon’s southern border in parallel with the Gaza Conflict right into a full-blown regional battle.
Talking in a televised handle to mark the funeral of the slain commander, Nasrallah mentioned the battle had entered “a brand new section in contrast to the earlier one” and that Israel had crossed crimson traces with its assault on the group’s stronghold.
