Nicely-meaning Nigerians have donated not less than a million naira on behalf of ex-inmates Ismail Lasisi and Lukman Adeyemi, who spent 24 years in jail for the ritual killing of a girl they knew nothing about.
In an emotional interview with The Punch, Lasisi and Adeyemi shared their harrowing expertise. They had been arrested and detained in August 2000, they had been sentenced to loss of life in 2009.
Adeyemi, who had housed Lasisi after a fallout with the prime suspects, was arrested along with his good friend after they visited a police station in Oyo State, following police inquiries about Lasisi.
In a stunning twist, the herbalist arrested in reference to the homicide was later launched by the police. However one other suspect who was mentioned to be harmless reportedly died beneath torture.
