Personnel of the Nigeria Safety and Civil Defence Corps deployed for the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State have complained over the alleged refusal of the authorities to pay their allowances, regardless of the election being held greater than 10 days in the past.
Six thousand NSCDC officers, together with these from neighbouring states like Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Edo, and Delta, had been a part of the safety deployment for the election.
The aggrieved officers, a few of whom spoke anonymously to The PUNCH on Monday, expressed frustration over the delay in receiving their allowances, particularly since different safety businesses, just like the police, had already been paid.
They highlighted financial challenges within the nation and described the delay as pointless.
One aggrieved personnel, who spoke anonymously to our correspondent, lamented that the delay within the allowance fee was uncalled for.
He mentioned, “These of us who participated within the Ondo election haven’t been paid until now. Our counterparts just like the police have acquired theirs already. The economic system shouldn’t be pleasant.”
One other NSCDC operative additionally dissatisfied with the delay merely requested, “Please assist us ask the Commandant Normal why we’re but to be paid.”
In response to the complaints, NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, acknowledged that he had met with the Deputy Commandant Normal Operations and the Normal Commandant to handle the problem.
In line with Afolabi, the administration knowledgeable him that the officers deployed for the Ondo election had already been paid their allowances on the sector.
“I simply met with the Deputy Commandant Normal Operations and the Normal Commandant over the problem. I learnt that the officers that had been deployed for the Ondo election have been paid. They had been paid on the sector,” he mentioned.
